About the Cemetery

Sandbach Cemetery is located approximately half a mile from the Town Centre and covers 5.62 acres of land.

Opened in 1935, the first interment took place on the 30 March 1935. On average between 70 and 80 interments take place in Sandbach Cemetery each year. The cemetery provides the following sections:

  • Fully consecrated with the rites of the Church of England
  • Interdenominational
  • Roman Catholic
  • Full Memorial
  • Children’s Section
  • Garden of Remembrance
  • Garden of Rest
  • Butterfly garden

The Butterfly Garden

The butterfly garden was opened on the 15 June 2011. The garden consists of a semi-circular lawned area that is bordered on one side by a colourful range of plants that have been specifically chosen to attract butterflies, moths, bees and other insects. Bereaved families are able to inter their loved ones’ cremated remains and place a commemorative nameplate on one of the sandstone kerbstones that border the garden. Three granite benches engraved with butterflies offer visitors a place to sit in quiet reflection in peaceful and tranquil surroundings.
